Lockana Privacy Policy

This policy covers both Lockana apps, published by NomadLink: the Android live wallpaper (com.nomadlink.lockana) and the iOS Lock and Home Screen widget. It does not cover this website, which is a separate service with its own cookie notice.

What Lockana collects

Nothing. We do not collect, store, transmit or have access to any personal data about you. There is no account to create, no sign-in, no profile, no email address, no advertising identifier, and no analytics, crash-reporting or attribution software of any kind in either app.

Because we receive nothing, there is nothing for us to share, sell, or hand to a third party — and no data of yours for us to lose in a breach.

What is stored on your device

Each app keeps a small amount of information locally so it can work. We cannot see any of it:

• Your settings — the JLPT levels you selected, and whether the English meaning is shown. On Android, also where you positioned the word on screen.
• Whether the one-time unlock has been bought.
• On Android only: which words have been shown, so a word is not repeated until the set has been seen, and how many times each word has appeared on your lock screen.

The Japanese vocabulary itself is bundled inside each app. Nothing is downloaded, and neither app ever records or transmits which words you have seen.

Backups — where the two apps genuinely differ

This is the one place the apps behave differently, so it is set out separately rather than averaged into a single sentence.

On Android, this data is excluded from Android's automatic backup, so it is not copied to Google Drive. It never leaves the phone. Uninstalling the app deletes all of it, which is also the only way to remove it — there is no server-side copy to request the deletion of.

On iOS, the shared container holding those values is included in your iPhone's iCloud backup. We are telling you rather than leaving it out. That is deliberate: it is why your settings and, more importantly, your purchase come back when you restore to a new phone. Excluding it would mean a learner who restored from a backup returned locked despite having paid. What travels is which levels you chose, one toggle, and a flag saying you bought the unlock — no identifier, and nothing you typed. It is covered by Apple's backup encryption, and Lockana cannot read it from anywhere but your device.

Network use, stated precisely

Each app talks to its own app store, for one purpose only: to ask whether you own the one-time unlock, and to complete that purchase if you choose to make it. Neither app's own code contains any other networking of any kind.

• Android declares the INTERNET and ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE permissions, which are visible on its Google Play listing. They exist for the Google Play purchase check and nothing else.
• iOSuses Apple's StoreKit for the App Store purchase check. The widget itself never accesses the network under any circumstance.

To be unambiguous, because it is the sort of claim that is easy to overstate: Lockana is not an offline-only product, and the Android app does hold permission to reach the network. It simply never uses it for anything other than the store purchase check. The wallpaper and the widget — the parts running on your lock screen — never connect to anything.

Purchases

The optional one-time unlock is sold and processed by Google Play on Android and by Apple on iOS — never by NomadLink. Your payment details are handled entirely by the store and are never seen by us or by either app. Their handling of the transaction is governed by the Google Privacy Policy and the Apple Privacy Policy respectively.

As the publisher, we can see the aggregated and order-level sales information the stores provide in their consoles — for example, that a purchase or a refund occurred. We use it only for accounting and to handle refund requests. We do not combine it with anything else, because there is nothing else to combine it with.

The two apps are sold separately and their purchases are separate. Buying the unlock on one platform does not unlock the other, because doing so would require an account, which neither app has.

Children

Lockana is a vocabulary app suitable for all ages. It collects no personal data from anyone, including children, and contains no ads, no social features and no user-generated content.

Your rights

Under the UK GDPR and the EU GDPR you have rights to access, correct, export and erase personal data held about you. In Lockana's case those rights have nothing to act on: we hold no personal data about you. The data described above lives on your own device and is entirely under your control — you can clear it from your phone's app settings or by uninstalling the app.

Changes to this policy

If either app's behaviour changes, this page will be updated before the change ships, and the date at the top will change with it. We will not quietly broaden what an app does and leave this page describing the old version.
